Habu Oil: For Maintenance of Okinawan Sanshin and Snake Skin!

Habu oil is essential for the maintenance of Okinawan sanshin.

It is viscous, so a small amount is sufficient.
The amount used at one time is minimal.
Although it is about 30ml, it can be used for several years.

It will solidify and turn white in low temperatures, but it will be fine if warmed in lukewarm water.

For maintenance, apply a small amount to a soft material like a cotton swab and gently wipe the skin as if stroking it, like brushing away dust.

If you apply too much habu oil, the sound of the sanshin will become dull, but it will return to normal over time.
For hon-bari (single-layer) sanshin with a snake skin stretched over the chee-gaa (body), playing and vibrating it will make it last longer, but maintenance with habu oil will make it last even longer.
For kyouka-bari (double-layer) sanshin with a reinforcing cloth underneath the chee-gaa, the skin will not tear, but in rare cases, cracks may appear on the snake skin. Habu oil can prevent cracks and keep the snake skin beautiful.

It has a slight odor, but please use habu oil to take good care of your sanshin.
