Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture - Giant Stag Beetle (Male). First Record!! Rare & Uncommon → Price Reduction!
? Price negotiation is welcome.
? Discovered and collected on June 3, 2007, just after 5 AM, on the street.
? It was on the street directly under a streetlight, so it is believed to be an individual that was attracted to the light during the night.
? I remember being quite excited and calling Mr. Toshio Inomata of Mushi-sha, with whom I was close at the time, to report it.
Mr. Inomata is a famous butterfly collector known to those in the know, and he also collected stag beetles in places like Yamanashi Prefecture in the past.
? I also collected small male and female stag beetles in Noda City, near Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture, and exhibited them at the Insect Fair in Otemachi, where someone purchased them.
I still have the photos.
? To my knowledge, this is the first recorded instance of a stag beetle in Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture.
? I heard from a beetle enthusiast who has lived in Kashiwa City for 80 years that Kashiwa City was once called the Kingdom of Stag Beetles.
? Indeed, even as of 2026, despite being a city of 430,000 people, one can still find Japanese rhinoceros beetles, Japanese beetles, and other insects along bus routes.
? It may not be surprising if some stag beetles are still surviving here.
? Thank you very much for viewing.
