Description
Autumn Seven Herbs: Bush Clover (Hagi)
Not a grass, but a deciduous shrub.
Its dense branches bloom with numerous small flowers, and the way they sway in the wind is elegant and often depicted in Japanese poetry (waka and haiku).
The plant that appears most frequently in the Manyoshu (an ancient collection of Japanese poetry) is not plum or cherry blossom, but bush clover. It stands out in autumn when its flowers bloom and is one of the Seven Autumn Flowers. It is widely distributed from Hokkaido to Kyushu.
