Satsuma style vintage Asian vase Preowned

The item shown is a vintage Satsuma-style Asian porcelain vase. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery known for its detailed decorations and use of gold. It originated in the Satsuma province (present-day Kagoshima prefecture) around 1600. The style evolved over time, with elaborately decorated pieces becoming popular in the 19th century, particularly for export. Key features of Satsuma ware, as seen in the image, and other helpful information: Material: Earthenware pottery, which is heavier and denser than porcelain. Glaze: Characteristically crackled with a warm cream, ivory, or beige background. The crazing (cracking) is intentional and part of the design. Decoration: Features over-glazed designs in a range of colors, including orange, green, blue, red, and gold. These are often hand-painted and can depict various scenes, such as figures, landscapes, and floral motifs. Technique: Some Satsuma ware uses moriage, a technique involving layering slip to create raised relief designs. Origin: The pictured vase is likely from the late 19th or early 20th century, a period when highly decorative Satsuma ware was produced for export. It may be an example of Kyō Satsuma, which refers to pieces made in Kyoto but originating from the Satsuma style. Measurement in photo
