Kouda Yoshiro, a Living National Treasure, was born on January 4, 1929, in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. He began studying the traditional Sendai-hira weaving technique, Seigo Sendai-hira, under his father, Kouda Eisuke, from an early age.
Since then, he has diligently honed his skills under the strict guidance of his father, Kouda Eisuke, and succeeded to the family business, Gōshi-gaisha Honba Sendai-hira Kōjō (now Gōshi-gaisha Sendai-hira).

He has continued to exclusively produce Sendai-hira to this day. In 1976, he was recognized as a holder of the Miyagi Prefecture Designated Intangible Cultural Property Seigo Sendai-hira technique.
He has deeply researched traditional techniques, preserved their strengths, and dedicated himself to weaving superior Sendai-hira with distinctive designs.
On July 8, 2002, Kouda Eisuke and Yoshiro, father and son, were jointly recognized as holders of the Important Intangible Cultural Property Seigo Sendai-hira technique, and continue to this day.
