Vintage 1998 Hallmark Keepsake 35th Anniversary Midge Suburban Shopper

Midge, Barbie’s original best friend, dressed head to toe in “Suburban Shopper” — a striped day dress and wide straw hat pulled straight from a genuine vintage Barbie fashion pack originally sold between 1959 and 1964. Hallmark issued this piece in 1998 to mark Midge’s 35th anniversary (she debuted alongside Barbie’s expanding world in 1963), pairing a beloved doll with an equally nostalgic outfit from the earliest years of the line. She carries a woven picnic basket loaded with fruit and bread, freckles and all — details Hallmark’s sculptors clearly took care with.
