【Harp Sheet Music】Alphonse Hasselmans "Berceuse" (Little Lullaby)

A. HASSELMANS Petite Berceuse FOR HARP

This is the sheet music for Petite Berceuse (Little Lullaby), a beautiful short piece by Alphonse Hasselmans (1845-1912), a renowned composer of practice pieces and an essential repertoire for harpists.

Hasselmans was a distinguished professor at the Paris Conservatory, nurturing many prominent harpists (such as Henriette Renié and Marcel Grandjany), and was also an outstanding composer and arranger himself. His works often showcase the characteristics of the harp, offering high performance impact and serving as technical training.

As its name suggests, Petite Berceuse is a gently swaying lullaby. Despite its simple structure, it maximizes the delicate and warm tone of the harp, bringing peace to the listener. With a difficulty level suitable for beginners to intermediates (Grade: Beginner-Intermediate), it is widely used as teaching material in harp schools worldwide, being an ideal piece for learning musical expression, hand balance, and tone control.

It can be played on both lever harps (Celtic harps) and pedal harps (grand harps), and is sometimes chosen as a piece for novice categories in recitals and competitions. It is also recommended for those who have just started playing the harp as their first piece to perform in front of an audience, separate from their daily practice. The sheet music is published by Alphonse Leduc, a long-established French music publisher, and is a beautifully designed volume.
